Aldwick v East Preston

Invitation League division two

Aldwick’s skipper lost the toss for the 13th time in a row and they were asked to bat – and once again they struggled to survive.

Despite Keelan Belcher’s 36 and Adam Robinson’s 20, Aldwick could only total 126. Tight bowling by Mark Coskin (4-31) and Jack Sunderland (2-19) gave Aldwick little chance of progress.

Opener Gary Weedon (65*) and Tom Wareham-Grinstead (43) easily saw East Preston home by eight wickets, leaving Aldwick with only ten points from three games and rooted to the bottom of the league.

West Wittering v Ram 2nd

Division three

Wittering won the toss, and with the pitch looking slightly variable, elected to bowl. Wittering bowled and fielded excellently and managed to restrict Ram to 96 all out off 40.1 overs, with Harry Staight the pick of the bowlers with 3-24.

James Staight, Carl Tupper and Matt Jewiss shared the remainder of the wickets.

Wittering made reasonably light work of the chase and got there with plenty of overs to spare. Mark Taylor made the most significant contribution with 37 before being caught at mid-off. Skipper Tupper hit a quick 18 not out off seven balls to finish a five-wicket win with a flourish.

Chichester 3rd v Aldwick 2nd

Division six

Aldwick won the toss against Chichester at Goodwood. Steve Price (38*) hit top score but Aldwick’s hero was Liam Hick with figures of five for 24. He was well backed up by Ian Guppy (3-29) and Ben Bambridge (2-28) as Chichester made 127 .

Aldwick got off to a steady start with veterans Arthur Bradbury (28) and Chris Redman (11) putting on 44 for the first wicket. Guppy’s 38 took Aldwick close to victory but it was left to Lara Johnson and Aiden Miles to see Aldwick home by three wickets.
