Arun bowlers issue open invite

Arun Indoor Bowls Club have an open and fun day on Saturday, February 2, from 10am to 2pm at their Nyewood Lane base in Bognor.

There’ll be a tombola, bric-a-brac, second-hand bowls, clothes and woods for sale, raffles, a cake stall, target bowls, plus tuition on the green. Refreshments will be available and the bar will be open.

NYETIMBER

Nyetimber Golds entertained Walberton in a league game and picked up four points by winning on one mat and losing on the other. Nyetimber won the friendly mat.

LAVANT

Lavant B secured an excellent win against Crablands Gulls in the League KO Plate.

On mat three a fast start by Lavant got them a nine-shot lead at five ends. Scoring steadily, they won by 14 shots.

Mat four was close with Lavant keeping ahead for most of the game to win by three shots. The final match score was 52-35. The friendly mat was close with Crablands taking the last end to force a draw.

BOGNOR GOODWOODS

Goodwoods Silvers continued their dismal run in the league when they lost their home match against Arundel 46-32.

Geoff King, Daniel Lovell, Janet Hudson and Les Dray (skip) gave a disappointing showing and lost 27-14.

The outcome on mat two was much better, but Silvers still lost by one shot as Margaret Williams, Barry Baines, Pam Smith and Brian Williams (skip) went down 19-18.

It was little comfort that on the friendly mat, Denise Dray, Betty Williams, Derek Fair and Freddie Kaucher (skip) won 18-11.

HUNSTON

A visit to Fittleworth resulted in wins on two mats and a loss on one - but an overall 57-50 defeat.

It was a good, close match enjoyed by both sides.

Scores: T Hack, J Stubbs, T Wilson, S Clay lost 25-6; D Greenfield, P Harle, A Harle, R Stevens won 19-18; P Franklin, J Hodnett, F Franklin, B Hodnett won 25-14.

SOUTHBOURNE

Wittering 39 Southbourne 32

Southbourne went to Wittering for a friendly short-mat bowls match and came away with a win on the mat skippered by Rodney Bull but struggled on the mat skippered by Alan Shelley.

However an excellent evening of bowling was had by all with Wittering the overall winners.

Scores: Bill Coates, Alan Williams, Dave Young, Rodney Bull won 20-15; Audrey Bull, John Staker, John Simmonds, Alan Shelley lost 24-12.

Southbourne 43 Crablands Cormorants 32

In their home south-west division one league match against Crablands Cormorants, Southbourne gained the maximum six points after two close-fought games, managing only to win on the mat skippered by Dave Walter on the very last end.

Scores: Antony Bull, Alan Shelley, Rodney Bull, Dave Walter (s) won 20-10; Mark Soper, Alan Williams, Robin Armstrong, Paul Butler (s) won 23-13.
