Goodwood’s Secret Garden hospitality area was deemed by the independent judging panel to be best in class because of the innovative nature of the event.
The racecourse hosted the Secret Garden for the first time in 2013, developing the area in conjunction with Roger Smith, a Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winner, and Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, to deliver a unique area that reflected King Edward VII’s comment: “Goodwood is a garden party with racing tacked on”.

The showcase judges were overwhelmed by the sheer quality and excellence of the Secret Garden. They commended the breath-taking transformation of space and the style and beauty which maintained the racecourse’s brand, which scored full marks in its category.

Celebrating excellence and innovation across all areas of racecourse life, the fourth annual showcase and awards - held at Lingfield Park - saw Chester named overall showcase champions with Warwick, Beverley, Lingfield Park, Goodwood and Cheltenham winning their respective categories.

Adam Waterworth, Goodwood racecourse MD, said: “It’s the third year of these awards and we have picked up awards at all of them. It just shows how hard all the team work at coming up with innovative ideas and experiences for racegoers.”

RCA chairman Ian Barlow said: “Every year the standard of entry has risen which is proof of how hard our racecourses are working to promote our wonderful sport by providing an excellent day at the races.”
