Bexhill disappointed with draw

BEXHILL United have made such strides over the past month that a goalless draw at home to Sussex Division Three leaders Wadhurst United was viewed as a disappointment.

Uckfield Town's surprise victory at St Francis Rangers meant that United remained second-from-bottom but if they continue to perform with this level of competence it will surely be just a matter of time before they start moving in an upward direction.

The previously sieve-like defence has now conceded a single goal in four fixtures and all that's missing is a finishing touch in front of goal.

Manager Tony Monk said: "I'm disappointed not to win because it was a tremendous performance. There was quite a crowd watching and we really turned it on. For the first 20 minutes they couldn't get out of their half. Overall it was a super, competitive game of football and it was the best we've played (since Monk took charge)."

Although United's dominance was greater in the first half than the second, it was during the final 45 minutes that they engineered the majority of their chances.

Del Longley had a couple of efforts cleared off the line and Ollie Leigh's chip was a coat of paint away from breaking the deadlock.

Bexhill take on Eastbourne Borough reserves in the fourth round of the SCFA Intermediate Cup at the Polegrove on Saturday January 10, kick-off 1.30pm.
