Bexhill overrun by Cuckfield duo

BEXHILL'S best batting performance of the season failed to save them from yet another defeat which keeps them rooted to the foot of the Sussex Cricket League.

A very competitive total of 242-5 gave real cause for optimism but this hope quickly turned into a false dawn as Cuckfield knocked off the runs with the minimum of fuss.

Acting captain Matthew Blackman couldn't conceal his frustration. He said: "John Holland batted really well for 99 and he was very unlucky not to make a hundred. Richard Harrison also batted well, he only got 28 but he played a very mature innings for his age. You can't hope for much more but we didn't exert enough pressure with the ball.

"The heat was a factor, more so on us because we didn't have the fitness. The aim was with 240 on the board to contain them at the start and get them behind from the start."

Holland continued his purple patch by hitting the top individual score from a Bexhill player this season, and support from Harrison (28), Blackman (33 not out) and Dave Munro (29 not out) ensured maximum batting points.

Bexhill reduced their opponents to 6-1 before overseas player Jason Oates (117 not out) and Chris Mole (106 not out) pieced together a chanceless unbroken partnership of 237 to lead their side to an ultimately routine victory.

Bexhill entertain Preston Nomads on Saturday August 16, while Sidley are at home to Lewes Priory.
