IN THE rolling South Downs, Bognor skipper Zayne Bux won the toss and elected to field.

As always the zesty Josh Broad bagged his now customary wicket (one for 17) bowling Hywel Jones for 10 and the burly Jim Lee (one for 69) joined in the fun having Oli Collins caught behind for 14.

Bognor’s bowlers turned the screw as the impish Mikey Harris snaffled Ryan Matthews for a duck and birthday-boy Joe Ashmore bagged a brace to leave Steyning at 82 for 5.

However, the hosts counter-attacked with a 106-run partnership between Dave Kennett (63) and Gary Hunt (53 not out) before Harris accounted for Kennett to finish with two for 53 and Ashmore had Chimhamhiwa leg-before.

This left Bognor looking to chase down 216 to win. After Max Ashmore perished for a single, skipper Bux and nuggetty keeper Ryan Maskell kept the scoring ticking along before they were dismissed by Andy Isaacs, both batsmen scoring 41.

This left form-man Jim Fallick to take up the mantle and he duly responded with a bullish 47 to take Bognor within sight of the finish line.

The work was finished off by Elliott Clarke and Joe Ashmore as they saw Bognor home to another league success.
