At race HQ many people also took the opportunity to reminisce about Don – the 79-year-old who died in a roadside incident in Findon just over two weeks ago – as a true gentleman and credit to the sport.

Many had ridden against him and he was magnanimous in both victory and defeat. All agreed it was a sad loss to the local cycling community.

In the time trial, Tom Pritchard of Hampshire Road Club produced a duplicate of his ride the week before and recorded another sub-20-minute ride.

Commiserations must go to Alex Napier of Blazing Saddles, who missed joining the sub-20-minute club by a mere two seconds.

Considering the mixed conditions it was particularly gratifying to see Michael Attfield of BRCC record a personal best while en route to being the fastest junior.

Deb Smith, also of BRCC, benefitted from her overseas venture where she rode in temperatures of over 30C, producing a ride of 23.43 to beat Kelly Enticott by 15 seconds.
