Bognor darts officials take turn on the oche

The captains’ knockout started with 15 players and all the big players made it through the first round.

The first semi-final saw Alex Norgett (Newtown SC A) go out to 2013 champion Gary Blackwood (Claremont).

The second pitted Hayley Gatford (Hunston Club) against Mark H Todd (BRSA Ravens). In-form Todd was too strong for Gatford.

That put Blackwood up against Todd in the final and both played well.

Todd won the bull for the first throw, but Blackwood hit the first ton. Todd followed that with his own, but two throws late Blackwood hit another, and followed that with 134. This put Blackwood in to the lead, with only 76 left, and over 100 in front of Todd.

Going for 76 Blackwood hit just five with his first dart, but followed that with treble 13 and double 16 to take the first leg.

The second leg again saw Blackwood hit the first ton with a 140, and he followed that with a straight ton. This left Todd playing catch-up by quite a margin, and with Blackwood hitting 98 to leave 70, Todd was nearly 200 behind.

Blackwood hit single 18 then single 20, and again finished the leg with double 16 for a 70 out-shot, taking the summer captains’ title.

The secretaries’ knockout also started with 15 players, a great turnout.

The first semi-final saw two-time semi-finalist Ian Hackett (Wheatsheaf) beat Simon Edwards (Aldwick Legion ‘B’).

Next, last year’s champion Lee Franklin (POW ‘Z’) got the better of Andy Stubbs (Hunston Club).

In the final, Franklin was nearest the bull for the first throw and it was an even start for both players until Franklin hit 100 and 140.

This left Hackett miles behind and his scoring getting worse. Franklin then stood up and finished the leg easily.

Hackett started slowly in the second leg and with Franklin scoring steadily it didn’t look good for Hackett. That was until he hit 100 and followed it with a 140, putting him in the lead.

A few slipped darts left Hackett with 24, but Franklin only needed 54. With two darts he hit single 14 and double top to regain the secretaries title for 2015.

In league matches, best game of the week was by Richard Ragless (Wheatsheaf) with 15 and 24 darts and a 25.69 average. Highest out-shot was from Richard Ragless (Wheatsheaf) with 92.
