Bognor Pirates make it a dog's life for the Huskies

Bognor Pirates II notched their first win of a difficult season, overcoming Holbrook Huskies 68-36 in the Sussex League.

With a full bench for the first time this season the Pirates started well, moving the ball around offensively and creating gaps in the Huskies defence which they converted into points.

Matt Wakeling was back to his best and working magic inside.

However the Pirates’ defence was not quite as good as their offence and the Huskies got on the scoreboard.

The second quarter had a similar trend and Rich Lowe did the damage inside. Bognor were working hard at the defensive but they weren’t firing on all cylinders as Huskies still managed to get themselves some baskets.

The Pirates were grabbing rebounds to make sure the Huskies didn’t get any second chances and they led 27-19 at halfway.

The third quarter saw the Pirates playing well at both ends. Bognor pressurised them and forced them into making some turnovers which the Pirates converted into points.

Bognor continued to move the ball well on offence with all players contributing to the score, making if difficult for the Huskies.

The final quarter started with the Pirates 50-28 up and they further tightened their defence to keep the Huskies to eight points.

The Pirates also kept up their great work at the offensive end, moving the ball well and all contributing to the score.

Kev Wilson did a lot of running to grab some good fast breaks and as the whistle went the delight and relief could be seen on the Pirates’ faces.
