Bognor swimmers heading for Sussex championships after piling up personal bests

Two days of action at the county development meeting at Brighton brought great achievements for youngsters at Bognor Regis Swimming Club.

Working towards obtaining qualifying times for the Sussex county championships in February and March spurred them on to great things under the watchful eye of development coach Sue Eason.

Charlie Long, 12, at his first open meet, obtained personal bests in both the 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke.

Ella Porter, 12, achieved county championship qualifying times and personal bests in the 50m breaststroke, placing her first overall in her age group, 50m backstroke, placing her first, 200m backstroke, putting her third, seven seconds under the county championship qualifying time, and in the 50m freestyle, placing her fourth. She also achieved a PB in the 100m individual medley – just missing out on a county championship qualifying time by 0.98 of a second but finishing fourth overall, and achieved fourth in the 100m breaststroke. She has six county qualifying times.

Roshana Nagi, 12, obtained PBs in the 50m backstroke, missing out on a county qualifying time by 0.88 of a second but obtaining fifth place, and in the 50m breaststroke, 50m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 100m freestyle and 200m freestyle.

Emily Guiry, 11, achieved county qualifying times and PBs in the 100m freestyle (first), 100m breaststroke (second), 200m butterfly (second), 100m IM (third), 100m butterfly (third), 200m freestyle (third), 100m backstroke (fourth), 200m IM (fourth) and 200m breaststroke (fifth). This gives her 12 county qualifying times.

Holly Porter, ten, obtained PBs in 50m backstroke, missing out on championship qualifying time by 0.62 of a second, 50m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 100m IM and the 200m freestyle.

Georgia Spink, nine, in her first open meet, was first in the 50m breaststroke, obtaining a county qualifying time for a ten-year-old. She also gained a PB in the 50m freestyle.

Romney Pluthero, nine, achieved a PB and county championship qualifying time in the 50m freestyle, placing her second in her age group, and a PB in the 50m breaststroke.

Alys Turner, nine, whose first club is Chichester Cormorants but who also trains with Bognor, obtained a county qualifying time and a PB in the 50m breaststroke and PBs in the 50m backstroke, 200m backstroke, achieving third place in the nine-year-old category, 50m freestyle, achieving fifth place, 50m butterfly (sixth), 200m breaststroke (sixth) and the 200m freestyle.

Anna Turner, 14, of Chichester Cormorants, who also trains with Bognor, took county qualifying times and a personal best in the 200m backstroke, coming in six seconds under the time for first place, and in 50m backstroke, achieving fifth place.

She was sixth in the 100m backstroke, the 100m freestyle and the 50m freestyle, took personal bests in the 200m individual medley, missing out on a county qualifying time by 0.55 of a second but obtaining second place, fifth in the 100m IM and third in the 50m butterfly.

Mia Cunningham-Stockdale, 11, took first in the 200m backstroke, third in the 200m IM and the 100m backstroke, third in the 100m freestyle, fifth in the 100m IM and sixth in the 50m butterfly.

Abbie Turner, 11, of Chichester Cormorants, who also trains at Bognor, achieved county qualifying times and personal bests and first places in the 50m backstroke, 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly and 200m butterfly to take her tally to 14 county championship times.
