A further ten competitors were team players with experience of competing in the summer and winter Sussex Tennis Leagues, so the standard of play was expected to be high.

For the morning session the pairs were divided into one of two mixed-ability groups and each played seven games against the other five pairs in their group. At the end of the morning, the pairs in each group were ranked according to their total games scores, and this allowed three new performance-based groups of four pairs to be created for the afternoon.

The four pairs in the top group were very evenly matched and the rallies were long and arduous, with players exhibiting an engaging combination of skill, power and guile.

The final contest for this group pitted Tracey Callingham and her son Oli against Maree Loversidge and Rob Callingham, father of Oli and wife of Tracey. This turned out to be the critical match that would determine the winning pair, and as last year,, the Loversidge/Callingham partnership came out on top 4-3, giving them a total of 16 games against Tracey and Oli’s 14 games.

Group two winners were Ruth Hendren and Keith Valentine, runners-up Jenny Loversidge and Laszlo Sagi; group three winners Carol Jones and Phil Butler; runners-up Cathy Tucker and Paul Tucker.
