Bowler Henry proves horrid for Chichester at Horsham

On arrival at Horsham for their Sussex Premier League clash, the hardness of the surface encouraged Chichester skipper Mark Bamford to bat first, a decision he regretted quickly as Chichester were blown away.

The ball seamed around and the movement accounted for the majority of the early wickets as Matt Henry took five for 15 off nine overs.

Support from Devon Endersby (3-24) at the other end and Sam Cushing (2-40) ensured Chichester’s innings was curtailed after just 31.1 overs on just 92.

Only four Chichester players reached double figures, and a number of the Chichester batsmen perhaps could have chosen their shots more carefully.

Early wickets would have been the only way Chichester could force an unlikely victory, but despite two wickets from Richard Browning (2-27), the procession of successes did not occur.

A fine stumping from Dave Leaver off Matt Geffen accounted for Endersby, but it was too late. Horsham reached the victory target to win the game by seven wickets.

Chichester seconds bounced back to winning ways with a seven-wicket victory over Lewes Priory at Priory Park.

Stand-in skipper Jonathon Heaven put the away side into bat on a gloomy day.

Openers John Moore and Charles Johnson looked solid in the first few overs, but Moore was forced off injured, sparking a major collapse.

Johnson was trapped lbw by Dan Faulkner and Adam Stapleton became his second victim.

Harry Isted dismissed Daniel Fine for seven to leave the away side on 40 for four.

Alex Armstrong played fluently for 23 but spinner Martin Lee took the last two wickets to leave Lewes all out for 76.

Shaw produced an excellently delivery to dismiss Carver. John Edwards fell soon after, but Peter Lamb’s big hitting diminished any hope Lewes had.

Lamb played one big shot too many and was bowled by spinner Sam Telford for 26 with only six more needed.

Jamie Hopkins and Phil Dicken saw Chichester for a 30-point haul.
