Present was George Bennett, a worthy product of the club, who had his first competitive boxing contest for the club many years ago under the tutelage of Jon Mills, Gareth Ferguson and Gerry lavelle.

Bennett is now a private trainer in Chichester and ran the city’s half marathon for St Wilfrid’s, raising much-needed funds for a very very worthy cause and completing it in one hour and 55 minutes.

Bennett returned to St Gerards for the donation, which was from the club and its boxers, to boost funds.

His dad Simon spent his last days in the hospice and he promised his dad he would try to raise as much money as possible.

Lavelle said: “My auntie Grace spent her last days there so it’s a cause very close to my heart and I know first-hand how unique, wonderful and special the place is for families in their time of need.

“Donations can still be given on George Bennett’s Justgiving page, or through me at the club.”
