Chichester boxer impresses in show watched by Eubank junior

St Gerards ABC travelled to Brighton with senior boxer Olly Jones.

The action at the Hilton Brighton Metropole Hotel was a big pro-am show, featuring Chris Eubank junior trying to emulate his ex-world champion father.

Jones was in first contest and was facing Brighton & Hove ABC 18-year-old Josh Ellis, weighing 73kg, 1kg more than Jones.

Jones started well but Ellis came looking for him. Jones clearly outgunned his man to win the first round.

Jones was told to keep the contest at long range and not engage as much as Ellis wanted to and the second round was also won by the Chichester fighter. In the last round Jones caught him with some handsome left hooks but still got too involved.

At the end coach Jon Mills told Jones he had clearly won but had taken punches he hadn’t needed to.

Jones, who is studying media at Chichester University, said he wanted to show he was a fighter as well as a boxer.
