Brighton Racecourse welcomes new manager

BRIGHTON Racecourse's new general manager is Nick Gauntlett who took charge of his first fixture at the course's last meeting.

The 43-year-old has joined the Northern Racing racecourse business from the hotel industry where he has worked for several major groups.

He was most recently executive director of the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Aberdeen and has also worked in management for Millennium and Copthorne Hotels plc.

Northern Racing's Group Managing Director Tony Kelly said: "I am delighted to announce the appointment of Nick Gauntlett as the new General Manager of Brighton Racecourse.

"He brings with him considerable experience of the leisure and events market which is crucially important in today's racecourse business."

Nick Gauntlett said he was thrilled to be joining such a vibrant company as Northern Racing which runs ten racecourses in England and Wales.

"This is my first job in the sport of horse racing, and so it will be a steep learning curve. It is a challenge that I am relishing, and I am keen to utilise my commercial experience of the leisure sector to take forward Brighton Racecourse."

He will be in charge of the course's remaining four racing days this season- today, Wednesday, followed by Monday September 28 and the closing two-day fixture on Thursday October 15 and 22.

The course will be hosting 22 fixtures in 2010.
