Cannon fires at Fontwell Park

Up-and-coming jockey Tom Cannon was the talk of Fontwell Park after ending their final meeting of the 2010-11 season with an impressive double for Hampshire trainer Chris Gordon.

First the 20-year-old eased home by nine lengths on 4/1 contender Princely Hero in the Bet This Summer With 888.sport.com Handicap Steeple Chase.

Then 30 minutes later he carried the 4/5 favourite Sovereign Spirit to a solid victory in the Congratulations Betfred On Winning the tote Handicap, five lengths ahead of Keckerrockernixes.

It came just eight days after Cannon had steered Sovereign Spirit to a thrilling win at Fontwell over a 1/5 favourite Themanfromfraam.

Earlier in Fontwell’s final meeting before their summer break, Pulborough-based Leighton Aspell also notched a double.

His first success came on 3/1 second favourite Geneva Geyser, trained by Littlehampton’s Lady Herries, in the Southern Coaches’ Novices Hurdle. Then he followed up with an even-more impressive success on Oliver Sherwood’s 13/2 shot Parazar in the Win Fontwell Annual [email protected]/fontwell Novices’ Handicap Hurdle.

The other two races on the card went the way of runners tipped on this website on Thursday morning.
