Caravan meltdown at Angmering

ANGMERING (www.ovalraceclub.co.uk) hosted the final trip to the coast for a horde of caravans on Sunday, August 16th when under a blue holiday picture post card sky they were wiped out in spectacular fashion.

The first caravan race was billed as a 'non contact' affair, but as the old vans bobbed and weaved around the track it quickly became obvious that there was not enough space or car control for them to get around the track without incurring some serious damage.

As several of the caravans began to disintegrate Rhys Francis almost rolled over only to come to a halt on the pit bend where his caravan was promptly demolished by the passing traffic. Team Dangerous driver Steven Turner managed to avoid the carnage to steer his remarkably undamaged car and van under the chequered flag for a well deserved win.

There was no chance of any caravans surviving the next race which was a demolition derby, with the last car and van left moving declared the winner. The carnage was tremendous as caravan after caravan was taken apart in kamikaze style attacks from the drivers.

Karl Annets, in his aptly named Hellzapoppin car and van got a taste of brimstone when a hefty collision caused his car to burst briefly into flames. Dean Archer found he had an unwelcome visitor with a car completely buried in his caravan ending his race in fine style while others ground to a halt, or in the case of Robert Daines, were left perched about three feet off the ground on the remains of caravan chassis and tow cars as the red flags came out to end the destruction with a win for 47, Troy Wolfe.

There will be more stock car action at Angmering on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31, with the incredible car jump event.
