Celebration Mile tops bank holiday action at Goodwood

Exciting racing on the South Downs – including the Group 2 Celebration Mile – provides a focal point to the entertainment while guests soak up a 1950s-themed family atmosphere around the venue.

The meeting kicks off on Friday evening with six quality races. Then as the sun sets over the horizon, a spectacular display of fireworks set to music will light up the night sky.

Starlight Design, the company that designed and supplied the fireworks for The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations, will put on a show in front of the stands which is not to be missed.

On Saturday and Sunday afternoon racing promises some excellent contests. This meeting is one of the most significant held at the racecourse outside of the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

Adding to the excitement on track, a helter-skelter, merry-go-round and the oldest travelling big wheel in the UK provide vintage fun for all as bathing beauties parade and a game of ‘invisible cricket’ takes place on the lawn in front of the stands.

There will be a dedicated children’s tent, located in the Lennox Enclosure, with lots for the younger audience to enjoy.

The popular face-painting team return, along with tutors from Circus Malabaristas who will be teaching children circus skills from juggling and plate spinning to balancing and acrobatics.

The Maze returns, challenging young adventurers to find their way out of the windbreakers. Punch and Judy shows and magic performed by the legendary Professor John Styles will take place on Saturday and Sunday.

All activities and entertainment are complimentary and included in the admission price.

Music still plays a big part in the Gordon Enclosure and racegoers can enjoy cool jazz throughout the afternoon, moving to 1950s rock and roll to end each day with the magnificent Class of 58.

Traditional fish and chips, ice-cream and a host of delicious foods are available on the mock beachfront, located beside the Parade Ring where the horses limber up pre-race.

With a plethora of great bars and eateries across the course, guests will never go hungry as they soak up the unique atmosphere with friends and family.

Tickets for each day of the August Bank Holiday fixture start from £10 with free admission for those 17 and under. A complimentary shuttle bus service runs between Goodwood racecourse and Chichester railway station throughout the weekend.
