Chichester athletes show they're on track at Basingstoke

Two Chichester Runners & AC athletes were at the annual Basingstoke YA open meeting at a very windswept Down Grange Sports Centre.

Rachel Laurie (under-17) made a very welcome return to competition after injury had forced her to miss all the winter indoor track season, along with most of her training.

Her performance in the 300m was very encouraging – clocking a highly-respectable 44.04sec which placed her fourth fastest of the day – just outside the medals.

Fleur Hollyer (U13) enjoyed a good day – running into a fierce headwind in the 100m, she still recorded a new personal best 15.48sec.

This came on top of an equally-good day the previous week at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in London, where in the annual YA Indoor Pentathlon, she notched up four new personal bests.

The 60m hurdles saw her stop the clock at 12.53sec, which was followed by a great 1.21m PB in the high jump and a PB 4.21m in the shot.

Run-up problems in the long jump resulted in a below-par 3.07m, but she ended the day on a high in the 800m – despite the tight bends of the indoor track, she recorded a PB 3.01.51, which took her overall points total to 1,262 (PB) for 14th spot out of 21.
