Chichester’s two development teams played the under-16 Sussex squads. In their first game, the Chichester girls were nervous, but congratluations go to Aimee Parr, Terri Daniels and Ruby Gibson for their determination and excellent play.

This was the first of many games for the development squads and their enjoyment and commitment will continue through the season.

Chichester smashed their way through in the Conference Cup to make it to the final 16 with a remarkable scoreline.

They dominated the court from the beginning, with experienced players such as Meg Martinez, Katie Doubleday, Abby Swieton, Shannon McGeachy and Kiely Reed forming the starting five and scoring within seconds.

Chichester ended the first quarter with an impressive lead of 39-4 and by the halfway mark it was 62-7.

Chichester started the third quarter with a press, but with a few bad passes from Chichester, Buckinghamshire took their opportunity and managed to score four times within three minutes to end the quarter trailing 93-17.

Determined to reach hundred and to make up for their earlier mistakes, Chichester scored 23 points in the eight minutes it took for Buckinghamshire to score their first points of the quarter.

Top scorer of the match went to Chichester vice-president Olivia Benger with an impressive 25, followed closely by Kiely Reed with 23 and team captain Martinez with 21.

Benger said: “I was very happy to be top scorer. It was really good to be back on the court again after not being able to play the past few matches. It was a confidence-boosting game and a great moment for the team.”

The next round of the cup in February sees the University of Chichester host the University of East London.
