Mini tennis red is for players aged eight and under. It is played on small courts with short rackets and soft balls. It’s just like the real game and gives players opportunities to have long rallies and play different types of shots.

This grade-five mixed singles competition was the latest in the club’s summer competition season.

The first stage of the event was run using a round-robin format of two groups of four players in each, with each match comprising a match tie-break to ten points.

The best two qualifiers from each group went into an elimination stage, with Edward Timberlake collecting the bronze medal by beating Ross Wilson 10-7.

The silver medal went to Toby Toft, who lost out to the eventual winner James Pollard 10-6 in the final, who also picked up the gold medal.

Tournament organiser and referee Peter Cook said: “The conditions were incredibly difficult. Temperatures on court exceeded 30C and yet the quality of tennis was still very high indeed, considering how difficult it must have been to play.

“Thanks must also go to all the parents who once again have given up their time, especially on Wimbledon finals day, to come along to support the youngsters.”
