Chichester triathletes qualify for Hyde Park worlds

It was only the second time the race had been held in Liverpool and was the last oppotunity for athletes to qualify for the world championships which are to be held in London’s Hyde Park on September 15.

The swim was a technical course looping around the docks, which included ten turns and two bridges.

The bike course was four flat and fast loops, which added eight technical dead turns into the mix. This was followed by a fast, flat run which was on pavement around the sites of the Liverpool docks.

All the CWTC athletes completed the race and thoroughly enjoyed a well-organsied event.

Mike Cooper had the fastest overall time of the group, while Jason Davis was not far behind with a new personal best.

John Kelly had a much faster swim than he expected and as a relative newcomer to triathlon, he enjoyed racing in what was once his home city.

Mary Campbell came third in her age group, which meant she received a bronze medal on the podium and had qualified for the worlds.

Andy Matthews had the fastest swim of the day from the club in 22.30min. Trudi Cunningham proved her new coaching regime at Westgate was working as she managed to knock ten minutes off her PB.

Emma Gueterbuck completed the race having come off her bike with a head injury and concussion earlier in the year and missed out on racing in Turkey at the European Championships.

Linda Roberts completed her third triathlon and had already secured a ballot place at the London event in September.

Keith Everly enjoyed the race without any pressure - he had already qualified for the world championships at the Dambuster Triathlon in June.

Others from the club competing were Steve Hasler - trying out new kit for Tri IT Sports - and Persephone Hagan, who had the fastest female swim for the club.
