Chichester trio shine among UK's top multi-event athletes

Three of Chichester's multi-event athletes have shown encouraging form in preparation for the 2012 outdoor season.

Izzie Brown gained a South of England silver medal at the Lee Valley centre with a 1.70m clearance in the high jump, a fine achievement in her first year in the under-20 age group.

In Sheffield the previous weekend at the first major indoor championship of the year - the national multi events championships - Brown was sixth in the under-20 pentathlon and another second place in the South of England category run in conjunction with the national event.

As well as a 1.71m clearance in the high jump, just one centimetre off her lifetime best, a solid shot putt of 8.79m was followed by a 5.07m long jump, a 60m hurdles time of 10.21 and a 2.46min clocking for the 800m to finish with 3,074 points.

At the same event Jamie Moore was in great form to finish fourth in the national event and take a South of England bronze. Just short of outdoor bests with a 3.94m pole vault and 1.68m high jump, Moore found that his winter conditioning training was paying off with a new best of 9.81m in the shot and solid sprinting, hurdling and long jumping was rounded off with a speedy 2.48min clocking in the 1,000m, equivalent to a 4.12 pace over 1,500m which bears comparison to top seniors. A seven-event total of 4,152 was just reward for Moore’s efforts.

Jessica Breach surpassed expectations with a superb fifth place at Lee Valley in the under-15 girls’ pentathlon in a field of more than 20 athletes.

A good hurdles and shot putt was bolstered by new all-time bests in the high jump with 1.40 and long jump with 4.71 before she showed her battling qualities with a front-running display in the 800m to amass 2,527 points.

As inspiration for the athletes at Sheffield, among them was the probable face of London 2012, Jessica Ennis, who was there to encourage the new generation of talented athletes.
