Chichester's young athletes have Moore reasons to be happy

A depleted team of Chichester under-17 and under-20 athletes travelled to Guildford and were rewarded with some fine performances in the latest match in the National Under-20 Junior League.

Chichester’s star competitor of the day was Jamie Moore, who used the event as preparation for the English schools decathlon championships in September.

After starting the afternoon with a fourth place in the 100m and a third in the high jump, Moore showed good speed to win the 110m hurdles before taking a share of first place in the pole vault with another 4m clearance.

A sixth in the javelin brought Moore’s individual points tally to more than 40 for the second match in a row.

Sharing the 100m was Dan Ducasse, making his first appearance for the club, who completed a good afternoon with a speedy 200m and second place in the long jump.

Dan Eeles and James McKenzie followed the early leaders in the 800m and were both rewarded with fast times with Eeles just getting his nose in front in the final few strides with a new personal best of 2.01.8 with McKenzie just half a second behind with 2.02.3.

Alex Fryday battled well in the sprints before gaining a third place in the triple jump, one of the best contested events.

Chichester scored best in the throws with Alice James leading the way in discus and hammer and all-rounder Clare Fraser lending support in shot and discus.

The final fixture is on Sunday, August 12, at the Withdean Stadium, Brighton, the day after the athletics in the Olympic Stadium end.
