Chick's chirping after taking Chichester university footballers to top spot

A TOTAL of 25 Chichester University teams were in sporting action across the south in the latest round of BUCS fixtures.

Both the netball and men’s football clubs enjoyed successful afternoons.

The men’s football firsts travelled to face Essex and secured a 3-2 win and their fourth in a row consolidating top spot in division 1A, Ben Chick grabbing a double.

On campus there were emphatic wins for the seconds, fourths and fifths.

The netball club also had all four teams in action - the ones travelled to UCL and won emphatically 61-31 moving top of the table, while at home the second, third and fourth teams also enjoyed comfortable wins.

The men’s hockey firsts beat UCL 3-2 in a top-of-the-table clash to move second and maintain their 100 per cent start to the league season, Alex Baxter scoring again to make it five goals in two matches.

Elsewhere there were wins for men’s badminton, men’s hockey twos and women’s tennis.

The previous week, 23 University of Chichester teams were in BUCS action with 13 victorious.

Six football and netball teams were in cup action again but all bar the netball fourth team were knocked out.

In the league, the men’s football first team bounced back from their cup exit last week to maintain their 100 per cent league record, beating Portsmouth 4-2 in a pulsating derby.

Both women’s football teams put in dominant displays: the ones recorded their first league of the win of the season beating Essex 9-1, while the twos won 9-1 away to University Arts London.

The men’s hockey club continued in the same vein with the ones beating Brunel II 9-1 - Baxter with a four-goal haul - and the twos recorded a 7-0 win over Sussex II.

Elsewhere there were wins for men’s badminton, women’s hockey seconds, men’s rugby twos and men’s tennis.
