CLYMPING SO CLOSE TO WIN

ONE OF the great things about cricket is that you never know what's just around the corner. At home to Pagham on Saturday, relegation-haunted Clymping found themselves reduced to 21-5, but then recovered to 196-9 from their 49 overs.

The Nyetimber Lane club went the other way. Having forced a position of some promise at 160-5, they contrived to finish four runs short of victory, and lost their ninth wicket off the final ball of the match.

Digested all that? Right. The top five in the Clymping order managed just 12 between them leaving captain Karl Pierce, Mark Allen and Chris Green to pull off an outstanding recovery. Pierce and Allen took the total to 85 before the skipper was caught behind off Phil Harris for 20.

More details in Littlehampton Gazette on August 7.
