Cowdray golfing seniors hope to warm to the new-year task

Cowdray Park seniors are looking forward to the promised thaw so they can get back into competitive action.

Four competitions have been arranged for January, including the re-scheduled Elliot Cup, played with two clubs and a putter.

Any further cancellations will pose the first headache for new captain Peter Burton and his vice-captain Bill Hummerston.

A new fixture has been added to the seniors’ already-busy calendar, at Hill Barn, Worthing.

At the recent annual meeting, five new match managers were selected for the year to help with the running of these fixtures.

The match versus The Dyke will be mananged by Derek Smith; Hayling Island, Paul Berry; Hill Barn, Tony Pike; Old Thorns, Brian Carpenter; West Chiltington, Chris Hoare.

Former captain Wally Mitchell exceeded his target of £2,000 for his charity, The Sussex Snowdrop Trust, by virtue of a raffle and donations at the annual meeting.
