Cricket: Bognor are top dogs after Taylor takes over

Bognor are top of division three west after a convincing victory at Slinfold.

Bognor elected to bowl but Slinfold started resiliently with opening pair Ansell (8) and Haines (23) reaching 32.

Then Australian bowler Sam Taylor ripped through the top order.

The introduction of pace bowler Josh Broad (2-22) brought further wickets thanks to another excellent slip catch, from Oli Handson.

A run-out left Slinfold were 57 for five. Matt Yates’ controlled 34 steadied them but Clarke’s introduction brought about a false shot.

Jim Lee (1-30) and Taylor (4-33) were reintroduced to clean up the tail. Slinfold were all out for 147, Taylor ending with four for 33.

In reply, Max Ashmore (33) and Elliot Clarke (75) put on 104 with Clarke’s 81-ball knock including 13 fours and two sixes.

Willway (16) and Luke Seward (20) saw Bognor home with eight wickets left.

The teams’ seconds met at the Regis Oval. For Bognor runs came quickly from skipper Ricky McIntosh (68) and vice-captain Bernie Burns (40). A swift 56 from Darren Coombes saw Bognor declare on 252 for nine.

As Slinfold batted, Mikey Wake’s two for 19, four wickets for Rich Cox and two for Andy McGregor meant Slinfold finished on 142 for nine.
