Cricket: Bognor stop Steyning in their tracks

A low-scoring thriller ended with Bognor coming out on top as their bowling attack demolished the opposition for the second week in a row for a Sussex League division three west win over Steyning.

Despite being restricted to 124, Bognor bowled out Steyning for just 90.

Steyning inserted the home side, removing skipper Elliott Clarke without scoring. However, Max Ashmore and Rob Willway (26) added vital runs.

Matheesha Ranasinghe (5-15) was rewarded for excellent bowling with the wickets of Willway, Luke Seward (4) and Sam Taylor (14).

James Fallick (17) batted well with the tail and there was late-order hitting from Josh Seward (10).

With runs at a premium, Bognor had to keep it tight. Opening duo Sam Taylor (2-20) and Jim Lee (3-21) applied the pressure early, condemning Steyning to seven for three.

Matthew Sewell (38) and Ed Lamb (18) adding 47 to give the visitors a sniff of victory. But Josh Broad (2-19) claimed both men’s wickets to swing it Bognor’s way. The Steyning lower order could add only a further nine runs to the total as Charlie La Foret (1-23) and Rob Willway (1-1) mopped up.

Bognor’s attack has demolished two teams for less than 100 in two weeks.
