Cricket: Title-hunting Bognor too strong for Littlehampton

A low-scoring affair against Littlehampton provided leaders Bognor with another 30 points ahead of their key clash against Middleton this week in Sussex League division three.

Struggling Littlehampton won the toss on an overcast day at The Sportsman and put the visitors in.

Bognor made a steady start with Elliott Clarke (18) and Rob Willway (19) taking the total to 45 for one before a mix-up led to Clarke being run out.

Willway fell to Daniel Rive (4-26) and Oli Handson (14) and Mikey Harris (13) were forced to re-build. Sam Taylor (20) partnered youngster Harris, occupying the crease for several overs to add to the low total.

The final five batsmen added just eight runs for Bognor as Ryan Budd ended with impressive figures of four for four in Bognor’s 109 all out.

Littlehampton’s reply started slowly but opening bowlers Sam Taylor (5-28) and Jim Lee (3-29) had to be patient and build pressure.

Taylor and Lee bowled superbly as Littlehampton were blown away with only one batsman, Chris Heberlein (15), reaching double figures.

Josh Broad (2-2) was introduced late into attack and claimed two wickets to put Bognor within touching distance. Taylor claimed the last to cap as Littlehampton were all out for 66 to keep up Bognor’s title push.
