Bexhill finally run into form

Hamish Russell believes nobody will be relishing the prospect of playing an in-form Bexhill at present.

Bexhill celebrated back-to-back wins in Division Two of the Sussex Cricket League for the first time this season following a dramatic last ball triumph at Haywards Heath on Saturday.

Although they only picked up 22 points from a possible 30, it was Bexhill’s first victory against a side in the top seven and went a long way to atoning for the disappointing five-wicket defeat in May’s reverse fixture.

Bexhill first team manager Russell said: “It’s good for us that we’ve beaten one of the top sides and Haywards Heath really did a number on us when they came to our place earlier in the year so we’ve put the record straight.”

Despite being down in sixth, Bexhill are now just 22 points behind second-placed Heath having played an extra game in what is becoming an increasingly competitive division.

“It’s a tight competition and you just never know what’s going to happen in this division,” continued Russell. “But we’ve got that little bit of confidence now that we can go out there and win games.”

Bexhill return to The Polegrove tomorrow (Saturday) to face a Glynde & Beddingham side which has also won its last two games to move up to third and within two points of Heath.

Russell added: “Third or fourth is still going to be a fantastic achievement for us, but I don’t think there are many teams who will want to play us at the moment and I do fancy us with a late run.”

The anticipated return of Malcolm and Shawn Johnson will leave Bexhill around full strength for a match which will get underway at 1pm.
