Priory win easily but Bexhill lose

Hastings Priory continued their flying start to the season with a derby drubbing on Saturday.

The Sussex Premier League leaders won by 170 runs away to bottom club Eastbourne to preserve their 11-point cushion over second-placed Roffey.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat at The Saffrons, Priory amassed 257-9 thanks largely to Kirk Wernars (61), George Campbell (49), Josh Poysden (31 not out) and Tom Harvey (28).

They then shot out their hosts for a mere 87 with Mick Glazier taking 4-8 off seven overs. There were two wickets each for Wernars and Harry Finch, while Poysden and Elliot Hooper picked up the other two.

Bexhill, meanwhile, slipped into the two releation places after allowing a winning opportunity to slip away as they went down by 30 runs at home to Roffey.

Having won the toss and chosen to field, Bexhill restricted the opposition to 203-8 with Jamie Wicks bagging three wickets, and Gary Johnson and Callum Guest two, in addition to a Malcolm Johnson run out.

Andrew Harriott (87) and Guest (32) put Bexhill on course with a fourth wicket partnership of 73, but they collapsed from 126-3 to 173 all out, losing their last four wickets for a solitary run.
