Sidley and Park fight out draws

Sidley were two wickets away from their first victory of the Sussex Cricket League Division Two season.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat, Sidley posted 240-3 thanks to John Haffenden (71 not out), Sam Steele (52), Peter King (52), Neil Priddy (35 not out) and Richard Harrison (27).

Opponents Haywards Heath reached 182-8 in reply with Paul Swannell and Ian May bagging three wickets each, and Chris Deeprose two. Sidley remain at the foot of the table after their second successive draw.

Elsewhere, Crowhurst Park also had the better of a draw away to Division Three (East) basement boys Henfield, but the Telham club drops to third in the table.

Park scored 237-6 batting first courtesy of Paul Brookes (55 not out), Paul Lindfield (53 not out), Colin Ayres (39), Martin Barry (37) and Dale Bryant (29).

Henfield ended their reply on 170-7 with Bradley Payne picking up three wickets, Lindfield two, and Ed Smissen and Nick Peters one apiece. See Friday’s Observers for full reports on both matches.
