Steyning have won 13 of their 15 games this season and have ensured they will be playing in Division 3 next season with three games still left to play.

Club captain David Kennett feels it has been a great season for his team.

He said: “We are really happy that we have managed to achieve promotion. It was our aim at the start of the season so to reach that is great.

“But it is not the end of our season, now we will now look to reach the 38 points we need to win the title and with three games left to play we should reach the points total required.

“Next season will not be easy in Division 3, but if we can keep most of our side together and add a few over the winter then I’m hopeful of a top-half finish.”

After losing the toss and being asked to bat, Steyning lost opener Oliver Collins for just one. The hosts struggled as Owain Jones (20) and Gary Hunt (39) were the only two batsmen to reach double figures as they were skittled out for just 92 in 40.3 overs.

Despite having such a low total to defend, Steyning claimed early wicket as the visitors struggled throughout with Michael Poole (10) and George Duplock (15) the only meaningful contributors as they were all out for just 53.

Owain Jones starred with the ball as he took 5-15 and he was supported by Luke Chapman who finished with 4-26.

Kennett added: “We were disappointed at the halfway point. But we were excellent in the field and with the ball and we managed to secure the victory.”
