Sussex Cricket League round-up: Division Four champions crowned
Mayfield are celebrating winning the Sussex Cricket League Division Four title.
The long-time leaders made certain of top spot with a 63-run win away to Stirlands yesterday (Saturday) - and they still have two games remaining.
Mayfield were all out for 137 batting first with Ajinkya Deshpande and Charlie Stoop picking up four wickets each. But Marno Pretorius followed up his 40 with the bat by taking 6-27 with the ball to skittle Stirlands for 74 despite Edward Clarke’s 44.
Crawley are on course to clinch the second promotion place, but they still have work to do following a five-wicket defeat away to Rye.
Kshemal Waingankar claimed seven wickets to bowl Crawley out for just 67. Rye didn’t find batting easy either, but Dan Seabrook’s 31 helped them get home.
Third-placed Slinfold failed to make the most of Crawley’s slip-up as they were beaten by 86 runs at home to a Southwater side which is now up to fourth.
Johann Brouwer top-scored with 52 as Southwater amassed 255 batting first, Akeem Jordan grabbing 5-60 for Slinfold. Daniel Graycon carried his bat for 59 not out, but Slinfold were dismissed for 169 in reply with three wickets each for James Skett and Paul Osborne.
Keymer & Hassocks boosted their survival hopes with an amazing 10-wicket win at home to Henfield. Lee Pittavino and Andy Westgate took five wickets each as Henfield were shot out for a meagre 34 in 22 overs batting first.
Wisborough Green won the battle of the bottom two at home to Hellingly by eight wickets. Gavin Sutherland (47 not out) and Greg Devlin (46) helped Hellingly get to 155 batting first, Nick Baron taking 5-32. Matthew Scott (70 not out) and James Self (44 not out) steered Wis past the winning post in reply.
