SUSSEX CRICKET LEAGUE ROUND-UP: Leaders win again to go further clear at top

SUSSEX Cricket League Premier Division leaders East Grinstead increased their lead at the top to 24 points after a nine-wicket win at Cuckfield on Saturday.

Carl Cachopa and Ian Sturmer both took three wickets as Cuckfield were all out for 73. Fynn Hudson-Prentice then smashed 53 not out from only 39 balls as Grinstead got home in 11.5 overs.

Bexhill, who started the day second, dropped to fourth after a four-wicket defeat to Preston Nomads, who climbed to second with the win.

Dean Crawford top-scored with 84 as Bexhill were all out for 159. Tim Moses claimed 4-56 for Nomads and Carl Simon picked up 3-54. Nomads reached their target in 38.5 overs.

Roffey moved up a place to third and are 26 points off the top, with a game in hand, after a three-wicket victory in a high-scoring game at home to Eastbourne.

Eastbourne were all out for 278 as Mark Tomsett struck 78 and Callum Jackson scored 56. Ben Manenti led the way with 4-77 from 19 overs for Roffey, who reached their target in 50.1 overs.

Mike Norris hit 79 not out and George Fleming struck an unbeaten 52 as they shared an unbroken 69-run stand for the eighth wicket.

Horsham remain fifth after a 105-run win over Middleton.

Kevin Stoute hit 115 not out and John Burroughs struck 60 not out as Horsham posted 255-5, before Middleton were dismissed for 150. Will Beer took 4-49 and Michael Munday claimed 4-66.

In the other game in the division, Billingshurst defeated Brighton & Hove by five wickets.

Dhanushka Mitipolaarachchi claimed 5-26 to help bowl Brighton & Hove out for 183 in 41.3 overs. He then struck a run-a-ball unbeaten 92 to guide Billingshurst to victory in 35.4 overs.

Worthing moved into the Division 2 promotion places with a three-run win against leaders Lindfield.

Worthing were all out for 188 as Josh Wood struck 51 and Shane Felton finished 35 not out, after a 51-run stand with Jamie Piper (nine) for the last wicket. Max O’Dowd took 6-51 from 17 overs for Lindfield.

Simon Shivnarain struck 113 as Lindfield wrere all out for 185 in 49 overs. Benn Challen picked up 3-25 for Worthing, who now trail the leaders by 24 points.

Hastings dropped a place to third and are now ten points behind Worthing after a 49-run defeat at St James’s Montefiore.

Adam Davies hit 55 in St James’s 183 as Jed O’Brien claimed 6-42. Sam Rattle took 4-46 as Hastings were all out for 134 in 45.1 overs.

Three Bridges remain fourth after a nine-wicket victory against second-from-bottom Findon.

Harry Metters struck 77 and Glen Bridson hit 57 as Findon made 219-6 from their 53 overs.

Joseph Ludlow blasted an unbeaten 132 and Hugo Cowan made 64 not out as Bridges got home in 40.2 overs.

Ifield won by 33 runs at home to Ansty as they recovered from 105-8 to finish their 53 overs on 207-8. Pratik Patel hit 77 not out and Jigar Parkekh an unbeaten 32 as Jack Palser took 5-49.

Ansty were all out for 174 as Guru Kedarnath picked up 5-50.

Pagham were seven-wicket victors at home to bottom-of-the-table Crowhurst Park.

Clive Tong top-scored with 57 as Crowhurst were dismissed for 128. Justin Scott claimed 5-13 for Pagham, who got home in 31.2 overs. Joe Turner struck an unbeaten 50 and Michael Hales scored 46.

Runaway Division 3 leaders Bognor Regis won again, with a nine-wicket victory against Portslade.

Timothy Van Noort grabbed 5-25 as Portslade were all out for 104. Max Ashmore finished unbeaten on 51 as Bognor reached their target in 21.2 overs.

Second-placed Crawley Eagles opened up a 31-point gap over third-placed Burgess Hill after a two-wicket win at home to Rottingdean.

Thomas Elliott hit 102 in Rottingdean’s 242-9 as Shanaz Abdul Raheem took 7-45.

Azam Riyard top-scored with 64 as Eagles reached their target in 46.2 overs.

Burgess Hill went down by 17 runs at Chichester, who were all out for 133.

Owain Jones took 7-28 as Steyning bowled bottom-of-the-table Glynde out for 87, before winning by six wickets.

Goring moved further clear of the relegation zone with a 48-run win over Haywards Heath.

Alex Maynard struck 99 in Goring’s 245-8, before Haywards Heath were all out for 197.

Mayfield continue to lead the way in Division 4 after a six-wicket win over Keymer & Hassocks, who were bowled out for 72.

Second-placed Crawley won by seven wickets at Wisborough Green, who had scored 214.

Bottom-of-the-table Hellingly won by five wickets against Henfield, Slinfold won at Rye by two wickets and Southwater won by 86 runs at Stirlands, who were all out for just 43.
