The Telham club suffered a disappointing 13-run defeat at home to St James’s Montefiore in a Sussex Cricket League Division Two fifth versus sixth clash despite another good performance in the field.

Park bowled the opposition out for 159 after losing the toss. St James were reduced to 53-5 at one stage with Ed Smissen taking two wickets, and Bradley Payne, Richard Coleman and Cameron Flanagan one apiece.

Partnerships of 47 and 44 got the visitors back on track before they lost their last four wickets for 15 runs, all of them to Matt Peters, who returned season’s best figures of 4-18 off 6.5 overs.

Park got off to a decent start in reply with an opening partnership of 49 between Martin Barry (19) and Dale Payne (30), but wickets began to tumble and there was much work to do at 104-6.

Pete Beaumont restored Park’s hopes with a useful 25, but after he was eighth man out with the score 145, the hosts were only able to add one more run as St James completed the ‘double’ following their victory in the reverse fixture on the opening day.
