Darts: Captains, secretaries and ladies take turn to shine

The Bognor Tuesday Double In Double Out League held their captains and secretaries knockout and a new ladies' contest at Newtown Social Club.

Elven teams sent their captains and secretaries and 11 players turned up for the ladies’ knockout.

The C&S first round saw a 171 from Ian Hackett, the captain of Newtown Raiders, but the Raiders pair were eliminated.

The first semi-final saw Richard Ragless and Dave Owens from the Squash Club beatf Ben and Mark Todd from the BRSA Ravens.

In the second, Peter Hall and Keith Robinson from the Chichester Snooker Club lost to Nick Hales and James Bartley from the Monters team.

The final first saw Ragless take on Hales in the captains’ game. Hales was playing consistently and easily took the first leg.

The second leg saw Ragless struggle to get his double start again, and eventually took the leg and the match for the Monters.

In the secretaries game, Owens and Bartley went face to face. Owens took the first leg with double one.

The second leg saw Bartley score 100 and 140 to gett the lead, which he turned into victory.

In the deciding leg, Bartley’s 101 in-shot and another ton left him needing double top which he hit with his first dart to take the match, making the Monters the captains and secretaries knockout champions.

The ladies knockout’s preliminary round included a 116 in-shot from Paula Duckett (Rich/Lamb) but it couldn’t help her win her match.

The semi-finals saw Trish Kidd (Cabin Cruisers) beat Rachel Hall (Friary Arms) and Mary-Jane Todd (BRSA Ravens) went out to Karen Winter (Newtown Raiders).

That meant a final between the top two ladies in the league – both county players, and friends and rivals.

Both players missed doubles but Winter managed to hit hers first to take the first leg.

The second leg saw Kidd take double five, which she hit with her first dart to take the game to the last leg.

Winter kept in front until Kidd hit 100 to take a slight lead. With 53 left Kidd stepped up and in two darts it was over as she found her double to land the first ladies’ champion title.

SUPER LEAGUE

Bognor made their return to the Sussex Super League after several years’ absence.

Manger/captain Graeme Dutton gave pub players and previous Super League players a chance to show their skills against top county players playing for Mid Sussex.

Dave Bourne, Andy Chant and Mark Todd all made their debuts at this level but only Chant made a winning start.

Bognor held their own in first six games with man of match Simon McDougall making it 3-3 and unfortunate not to be 4-2 up, with both Adi Linfield and Dave Bourne both missing out 3-2.

In the end Mid Sussex showed their class to win 6-3. Bognor’s other winner was Del Smith.
