Darts: Russ rustles up a great score in double-in league

ELEVEN players hit 100-plus starts in the Tuesday Double-In League with Russ Burgess (Wheatsheaf) recording the highest with a 152 shot in.

Others were Pete Mitchell (Richmond Raiders) with 105, Andy Stubbs (Crown Snooker) 112, Terry Markey (Felpham Tavern) 112, Joe Costa (Felpham Tavern) 106, John Cattermole (Royal Oak) 100, Chris Gatford (Chi Snooker ‘B’) 100, Andy Hills (Chi Snooker A) 100,  Rob Rice (Chi Snooker ‘C’) 120, Alex Norgett (Cabin) 103, Mick Isles (Richmond A) 102

A maximum was recorded by Ben Marley (Crown Snooker).

In division one Crown Snooker travelled to the Royal Oak but were defeated 8-1.

Chichester Snooker A got off to winning ways, beating the Richmond Raiders 5-4 in a match that went to the very last leg. Chi Snooker won 7-2 against Felpham Tavern, a clash which saw a close match between ex-county players Chris Gatford and Trish Kidd.

Gatford recorded a 100 start and a 19-dart leg, while Kidd hit a 107 finish to push the game to three legs.

In division two, The Old Barn hung on to joint top spot with the Lamb. The Barn edged the win 5-3 against the Legionnaires while the Lamb beat the The Cabin 7-2. The Wheatsheaf edged out the Richmond A 5-4. Chi Snooker C won 7-2 against the Little Vic.

Nick Wyatt produced the performance of the week with an outstanding 27.83 average to push him third in the averages as team-mate Rob Collins headed top with a 25.58 winning average.

Richard Ragless (Wheatsheaf) produced the highest finish with a 156 shot out. There were 180s recorded from Andy Cooke (Whitehorse Z), Matt Bourner (Wheatsheaf) and Richard Ragless (Wheatsheaf).

Division one saw the top two teams in action against each other, Whitehorse Z just edging out the Wheatsheaf 12-10 and taking top spot with 28 points.

Richmond A opened their season with a 11-11 draw with Chi Snooker B.

In division two both the Friary D and Royal Oak A pulled off convincing wins. Friary C kept the pressure up in third place winning 12-10 against the POW A.

Division three saw Chi Snooker Club A produce their second win of the season and take a clear lead at the top.

The second and third-placed Newtown teams met, the Bs winning 12-10 against the Cs.

The final game of the first half of the season produced a Littlehampton derby with the As travelling to face the Locals.

Littlehampton A, second in the league following their break last week, needed to keep the pressure up.

But the match opened in favour of the Locals as a close match between Andy Hills and Pete Welstead went to five legs, which saw Welstead take a 106 finish after Hills hit 105 to leave 36.

Littlehampton A took the next eight games to win 8-1 with Terry Howse taking the county’s top MOM award with a 30.67 average.
