Davis up to 17th in world rankings

Mark Davis has moved up a place to 17th in the latest World Snooker rankings.

The St Leonards cueman has leapfrogged World Championship finalist Ali Carter after his run to the semi-finals of the Australian Goldfields Open last week.

Although just outside the all-important top 16, Davis is in effect just inside because reigning world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan isn’t on the circuit at present.

The first rankings ‘cut-off’ point of the season comes after this weekend’s UK PTC 1 at the South West Snooker Academy near Gloucester.

Davis, 39, has enjoyed a magnificent start to the 2012/13 World Snooker campaign having reached the semi-finals of the Wuxi Classic and Australian Open, as well as winning the Six Red World Championship.
