DOUG KERRIGAN provided a masterclass in backhand to give Aldwick Otters a winning start to the new campaign in the Arun Table Tennis League.

Otters overcame a spirited performance from Runcton Roustabouts to record a 5-2 victory in the first encounter of the winter section of the competition staged at the Nyewood Grange Centre, Bognor.

And Kerrigan, a former Glasgow Open champion, led the way with a classy display in his victory over Shane Holmes.

Also triumphant for Otters were Bob Stone, Ricky Rayner, Dicky Noir and Richie Powling while both Martin Jones and Steve Dell can count themselves unlucky to lose.

Otters manager Ron Korbetti said: “Doug led the way and we deserved the points but credit to the Roustabouts for a sterling display.”
