Dragonflyers bounce into 2013 with trophies in sight

Dragonflyers trampolinists James Smith and Philippe Newton Young from The Regis and St Mary's School start the new year with a trip to Bristol for the zonal schools trampoline finals.

They will compete against the top three performers from the south east, south west, south and London regions with the first three from each age group qualifying for the GB national finals.

Smith and Newton Young will represent south-east England after qualifying at Uckfield in December.

Smith came second in the under-15 boys’ elite with a ten-bounce routine consisting of nine somersaults. He is hoping to raise his difficulty in Bristol by adding at least one double somersault.

Newton Young came third in the under-11 boys’ elite, a remarkable acheivment for a nine-year-old.

The elite section includes international and national performers from top clubs and schools.

Other Dragonflyers to do well at regional elite championships were Eleanor Morton and Izzy Hauxwell, fifth and eighth in the under-11 girls, while Karis Pullen, Charlotte Taylor, Anya Johnstone and Jess Lynn finished 13th, 16th, 20th and 26th respectively.

Taylor Cleall, Georgia Beadle and Beth Rayner all finished at the top end of the novice regional championships.

Flyers saw four performers qualify for national level in 2012 and are excited at the prospects for 2013 with so many youngsters at the top end of regional competition.
