Duddles fracture dents plan

WORTHING's team-building plans suffered a blow on Saturday when in-form fly-half Ben Dudley suffered a broken leg. His tibia took the impact from a flying boot as an opponent went to ground.

The club were satisfied they had got their man for one of the key positions in the team. And by the end of the day they were digesting their first defeat, to the team who upended Richmond a week earlier to share with Richmond the mantle of early-season promotion favourites.

Worthing chairman of senior rugby Dick Mowbray said: "We did not adapt to the referee, although we felt he wasn't helpful when our coach Ian Davies asked him at half-time for some clarification of his policy. The first-half penalty count was 16-3 against us. He appeared to think we were slowing the game down."
