FONTWELL PARK hosts its first big weekend race meeting of the 2011-12 jumps season on Sunday.
A good number of entries have been received across eight races which will be crammed into the afternoon, with the first one off at 2.10pm.
Champion jockey AP McCoy is booked to ride, as is Richard Johnson, who wowed the crowd at the track’s recent Ladies’ Night by winning four of the first five races.
McCoy is scheduled to be on Caddie Master for Jonjo O’Neill in the FSB Print And Mail Handicap Hurdle at 4.50.
Johnson is back on one of his Ladies’ Night winners, Henri Prends Garde, in the FSB Data Services Handicap Chase at 5.20.
The biggest entry list at the five-day stage was 22 for the FSB Business Banking Novices Hurdle, which is off at 3.15.
As usual, local trainers will be vying for a place in the winners’ enclosure, including Sussex’s Gary Moore (pictured) and Amanda Perrett and Hampshire’s Michael Madgwick.
Sunday is being billed as a figure-of-eight race day, celebrating the unique layout of the track.
Fontwell Park is the only figure-of-eight jumps course in the country.
There are eight races at the meeting and people can buy tickets for as little as £8.88 if they book in advance.
The meeting is being sponsored by 888sport, who also put their name to the venue’s Premier Grandstand, and the Federation of Small Businesses.
Children aged 15 and under are admitted free.
As usual at a weekend meeting at Fontwell, there will be plenty of free children’s entertainment. It includes water zorbing, a paddle boat pool, fun fair rides and sideshows, a bungee run, bouncy castles, jockeys’ mastermind, pets corner and face painting.
Free colouring packs will be given out to young children.
It’s Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure tickets that can be bought for £8.88 in advance. These will be £21 on the day. In the Premier Enclosure it’s £22 in advance or £26 on the day.
