A BUMPER crop of entries has seen this afternoon’s (April 11) jump-racing card at Fontwell extended to eight races.
The action will begin at 2.20pm as planned, but the opener – Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Novices’ Hurdle – has been split into two divisions.
The last race, the Hardings Catering Standard Open National Hunt Race, will now be at 5.50pm.
In all, there were 89 runners left across the eight races after final declarations yesterday.
In division one of the Weatherbys-sponsored opener, Charlie Longsdon’s runner Up To Something looks like going off one of the favourites.
In the second division of the contest, Victor Dartnall-trained Seebright and Oliver Sherwood’s chance Fling Me should attract plenty of support.
Venetia Williams has had recent success at Fontwell and she runs Howard’s Legacy in the third race, the 11th June Fontwell Park Business Club Novices’ Chase.
Next on the card is the Spring Fair 18 & 19 May At Fontwell Handicap Hurdle, in which Laura Mongan-trained Rosoff will be worth a watch.
Sussex favourite Fruity O’Rooney – fresh from a fine showing at the Cheltenham Festival – will be well-backed in the Weatherbys Hamilton Insurance Handicap Chase.
Also on the agenda are the totepool.com Handicap Hurdle and the SIS Live Handicap Chase.
With warmer weather now having arrived, Fontwell officials will be hoping for a decent-sized crowd after their last meeting was hit by bitterly-cold temperatures.
Apart from the racing, which is likely to feature a number of jockeys and trainers who were at Aintree for the Grand National on Saturday, there will be a variety of children’s entertainment including face painters and bouncy castles.
Gates will open at 12.30pm.
