FIVE swimmers from Bognor Swimming Club's masters team competed at the Sussex masters championships at the Pavilions in the Park swimming complex in Horsham.

Sam Webb gained first place in three events – the 50m backstroke, 100m individual medley, with a comfortable win in 1min 03.23sec and 50m breaststroke, where he destroyed the field taking gold in 31.64sec.

He also took silver in the 50m freestyle in 25.88 and was a strong asset in the mixed freestyle and medley teams.

In his first masters event, Martin Stone, who has been training only for a short time, took gold in the 50m backstroke with a time of 1.00.95. In the 50m freestyle he finished sixth. He also put his training into practice in the freestyle and medley relays.

Sue Eason took silver in the 25m breaststroke in 29.55. She was fifth in the 25m butterfly and 25m backstroke and sixth in the 25m freestyle and 50m freestyle. Eason gained PBs in her personal events and swam a strong freestyle leg in the mixed relay team.

Louise Chambers achieved two comfortable golds in the 25m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke, the latter in 45.44.

Chambers finished the 50m freestyle fourth in 38.12, was fourth in the 25m butterfly and fourth in the 25m freestyle, missing bronze by one second in her age group.

Chambers showed determination in the breaststroke leg of the medley relay where the team finished in 113.00.

Nicki Rowe took medals in all six of her events and PBs in three events, which included silver medals in 25m breaststroke, 25m butterfly, 25m backstroke and at 25m freestyle in 16.48. Rowe just missed a gold in 25m free.

Third place was taken in the 50m freestyle (36.43) and 50m backstroke. Rowe competed with the team in the freestyle and medley relays and they finished the freestyle relay in a respectable time of 112.67.

The relay teams gained bronze medals in both events – a fantastic result for everyone.
