Fontwell champ Johnson to be honoured today

FONTWELL PARK stages its second meeting of 2012 this afternoon (Friday) when the course will honours its champion jockey of last year.

Richard Johnson – consistently second to Tony McCoy in the national table for jump jockeys – was the top rider at the figure-of-eight track in 2011.

He will become the first winner of a prize being offered annually at Fontwell and sponsored by the website www.chancelloroftheformchecker.co.uk.

A seven-race card begins at 1.30pm and ends at 4.30 with the digibet.com Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race.

Our tips for today: 130 I No Understand, 200 Oncle Kid, 230 Terra Bleu, 3 Sir Du Bearn, 330 Forest Rhythm, 400 Tecktal, 430 Il Presidente.

The last race is likely to feature Il Presidente, a German horse whose connections plan to make the 400-mile trip.

Trainer Andreus Wohler said: “He is a five-year-old and hasn’t run yet. He needed time to mature, but we’re going to have some fun and thought we’d trial him at Fontwell.”

There was an extremely healthy number of entries across the card.

We’ll have a report on this website this evening.
