Fontwell race to be named after Tikram

FORMER Cheltenham Festival winner Tikram, who was retired in March, will have a race named in his honour at Fontwell Park this November.

The gelding (11), trained by Gary Moore, was retired in March this year. He was a four time course winner at the Sussex track as well as winner of the Mildmay of Flete Challenge Trophy at the 2004 festival. His last victory at Fontwell Park was in a 25,000 handicap chase on National Spirit Hurdle Day in February.

Tikram's owner Rodger Sargent is sponsoring the 20,000 Tikram Handicap Hurdle over two miles and two furlongs, for horses rated 0-130, on Sunday November 16. The race replaces the Salmon Spray Handicap Hurdle and will be known as the Tikram Handicap Hurdle (for the Salmon Spray Trophy).

The next fixture at the track is a Viva Las Vagas Ladies Evening on Thursday March 21, first race 5.25pm, when the best dressed lady will win 1,000.
