Fontwell St Patrick's raceday: preview and tips
A day after the Cheltenham Festival ends, you can keep the horse-racing spirit going at Fontwell Park on Saturday, when seven races will be complemented by a host of Irish fun.
There are some small fields but a total of nearly 40 horses across seven races could still make for some competitive racing.
The annual St Patrick’s Raceday features live Irish music from the Cracklin’ Griffins and a wide range of Irish food and drink.
After Fontwell had their meeting abandoned on March 8, the luck of the Irish looks to be shining on Fontwell with better weather forceast.
National Spirit Hurdle winner Gary Moore is now top of the Fontwell trainers’ table, having overtaken Neil Mulholland and Paul Nicholls.
Moore has runners on Saturday and will aim to increase his lead as the National Hunt season draws towards its April finish.
After the racing comes rugby – Ireland v England kicks off at 5pm and Fontwell Park will be transforming its marquee into a beer and rugby tent where the atmosphere will be electric as everyone cheers on their country on. Marston’s will be supplying a host of local ales from Hampshire which can only be found in the marquee.
You can pay to get in on the day.
