Fontwell's Friday fixtures continue - preview and tips
Fontwell Park's busy spring of jump racing continues today (Friday, April 15).
The track stages the second of three Friday fixtures in April, the Rivervale Raceday, which is in aid of the Rocking Horse children’s charity.
A whopping 78 runners will line up for eight races, with one contest split into two divisions because of the high numbers.
Action on the track begins at 1.35pm with the Charlie Millington 80 Not Out Handicap Hurdle and runs through to 5.30pm and the SIS Live Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race.
The feature race is the class-three Neil Madgwick Memorial Handicap Chase at 3.20pm, which has a field of seven.
Trainer Kim Bailey and David Bass, who teamed up for second place in last Saturday’s Grand National with The Last Samuri, are set to join forces in the Miles Commercial Novices Hurdle, the class-four Laser Novices’ Hurdle, with promising five-year-old Abbreviate.
The Rivervale Approved Used Vehicles Handicap Chase sees Lawney Hill enter Bertenbar for a third consecutive meeting at Fontwell where he has won on his previous two outings. Again being paired with Aidan Coleman it will be interesting to see if he can get the hat trick.
The day is being sponsored by Rivervale car leasing and is in aid of their chosen charity Rockinghorse who aim to raise vital funds for sick children in Sussex.
Fontwell’s hectic schedule of racing continues with a 1990s celebration – Rewind At The Races – at an evening meeting on Friday, April 29.
Then May brings another evening meeting – the annual United Hunts fixture – on Thursday 12, and the big bank holiday Sunday fun day on May 29.
Kids get in free to all meetings and you can save money by buying in advance – go to www.fontwellpark.co.uk or call 01243 543335.
